Genworth in the community
At Genworth Australia, we support our business goals through our commitment to make a difference in the communities in which we live and work. Our community plan focuses on three things:
- Impact on the communities and clients our partners serve
- Engagement opportunities for our employees
- Partnerships with mission aligned community organisations
In 2016, 38% of Genworth employees dedicated time to volunteering programs with our community partners. The enthusiasm and the impact of our employee's efforts continues to be truly remarkable as they offer their time, energy, creativity and expertise to help our community partners and the clients they serve. In addition to a variety of volunteer opportunities, Genworth offers a number of programs including milestone anniversary donations, Make-A-Difference day and, new in 2017, employee sponsored donations that allow employees to support a community partner of their choice.
St Vincent de Paul Society
For over 175 years, the St Vincent de Paul Society or Vinnies, as it is known fondly in Australia, has been lending the hand of support to people experiencing disadvantage. Through a strong network of 40,000 members and volunteers in 900 communities across Australia and many hundreds of professional services, Vinnies provides a range of programs that assist people experiencing homelessness; domestic and family violence; mental illness and addiction. A major part of Vinnies’ work is to support people who are at risk of or who are experiencing homelessness. Vinnies operates numerous homeless services across Australia including; crisis accommodation; family services; refuges for women and children escaping domestic violence; one to one case management support; access to medical, legal and financial advice; education and training; and meals programs. Genworth partners with Vinnies in supporting those experiencing homelessness.
With our focus on supporting the homeless we partner with St Vincent de Paul in areas such as intervention programs and keeping kids engaged with education to develop a love of lifelong learning. From participating in the 'CEO Sleepout', to volunteering at Vinnies warehouses and supporting homeless services we are there helping to reduce the number of homeless in our great country.
The Forsight Foundation
The Forsight Foundation provides accommodation, support and training for adults who are deaf/blind with multiple disabilities. Genworth and the Forsight Foundation have partnered together to provide a comfortable living environment for Forsight's deaf/blind residents through financial support and the Genworth volunteers program. The Genworth volunteers program has helped build and renovate Forsight resident homes to increase the quality of independent living for its residents.
Genworth’s relationship with Forsight Australia dates back to 2007. Since that time, Genworth has contributed much financial support to enable Forsight to move toward their mission to remove isolation and promote inclusion for deaf and blind adults. With Genworth’s support, they have been able to retrofit kitchens, bathrooms and hallways to accommodate disabled adults. Our Backyard Blitz program has seen gardens improved, fences mended and walls painted over 15 times and has given over 150 employees the opportunity to participate.
